Boat overview:
The Beneteau GT 46 has a spacious lazarette or engine room which makes the installation of our Quick MC2X 16k gyro stabilizer much easier.
The Quick MC2X 16k gyro stabilizer installation wasn’t done while the boat was on the water – although that is possible. The Beneteau GT46 was hoisted up in the yard and from there, the installation work commenced.
Installation step 1: Building a strong base for Quick MC2X 16k gyro stabilizer
The base or the reinforced cross beams were built using timbre and fibreglass with a metal alloy plate beneath it for the mounting of the Quick MC2X 16k gyro stabilizer thereafter.
The installation and mounting details are stated in the installation manual provided by Quick.
Installation step 2: Mounting of the stabilizer’s power supply and touch screen controls
It is good to perform this step before mounting the Quick MC2X 16k gyro stabilizer because most of the time, the stabilizer’s power supply (or AC dynamic control) is mounted in a very tight corner of the engine room or lazarette that might not be accessible after the stabilizer is mounted.
The drilling template for the AC dynamic control and touch screen control panel are provided by Quick.
At this stage, should you realise that the wire lengths provided are not enough, you can immediately place a wire extension spare parts order with your dealer. However, this is highly unlikely because the stabilizer is pre-wired with a 6m cable which should be more than enough to reach the AC dynamic control driver and it comes with a 20m cable which should also be more than enough to reach your remote control panel.
Installation step 3: Mounting of the Quick MC2X 16k Gyro Stabilizer
Drilling templates are also provided for the gyro stabilizer mounting as shown in the pictures below.
Installation step 4: Wiring up the dynamic control and touch screen control panel
The wiring diagrams for the AC dynamic control MC2X driver and the touch screen control panel are provided by Quick.
Installation complete!
We have since commissioned the stabilizer and the boat owner is happy with the results!
We did a quick sea trial for the newly installed stabilizer and it achieved stellar results! Screenshot of the sea trial results using our Quick MC2 app is shown below.
We headed out to the open sea for the sea trial and used the Quick MC2 app to record 5min of the boat’s roll with the stabilizer ON and then another 5mins with stabilizer OFF and these are the results we got:
- 95% roll reduction, 78% comfort improvement
- Average wave height: 38cm
- Sea state 2 observed
- Mean wave period: 3.3s
- No. of waves sampled: 145
