This is our first gyro stabilizer refit on a superyacht in Singapore. Installation wasn’t easy for this boat because, in order to fit the 2 units of our MC2X 56k gyro stabilizers in, the entire hull transom had to be cut open, flooring to be taken apart to make way for the building of the stabilizer base, etc. It was a massive “renovation” or what boaters would call a huge “boat refit” project.
We embarked on this challenging gyro stabilizer refit project with a competent shipyard in Batam – PT Asianfast Marine Industries. Due to the work-intensive nature of this stabilizer refit job, it took about 3 weeks+ to install the 2x stabilizer units.
Let’s take a closer look.

The plan is to install the 2 stabilizer units at the lazarette (stern) of the superyacht – one on the port side and the other on the starboard side. For a multiple unit installation, the stabilizers must face opposite directions – one unit to face the bow, the other unit to face the stern.
As you can see from the photo of the superyacht above, the only way for the stabilizer to enter is to cut a big hole in the transom and fit them in.
The first step as always, is to build a reinforced base – a square-shaped metal plate glassed to the stringers and to the hull.
Once the base-building is done, then the hull transom is cut to allow the stabilizers to enter.
Once the stabilizers are in, its position then needs to be fine-tuned to sit nicely at the bolting positions. Once done, the stabilizers are bolted down and the bulk of the installation work is complete. Shown below are both stabilizers bolted in place, onto the reinforced base.
Next step is to wire up the gyro stabilizers to the drivers and touch screen control panels. These were installed near the gyro stabilizers at the galley area.
Once all’s done, everything is cleaned up and installation is complete! Photos of the completed installation masterpieces below.
We look forward to more Quick gyro stabilizer installations on superyachts with PT Asianfast Marine Industries!
